YA Book Spotlight

Feature and Follow August 22, 2014

This week's question:

What book / series do you think would make a better TV show than a movie?

I think that Giant Tales anthologies would make a good TV series for the following reasons:

  • The themes are varied, yet interesting with elements of action, twists, and details.
  • The content is family friendly and also entertaining.
  • Since many authors contribute to each anthology, there is variety.

Lava Storm in the Neighborhood in itself would make for an exciting TV show. The theme for this anthology is world wide earth quakes, multiple volcanoes erupting, a bully, and a theme of "My Brother's Keeper". I am a contributor to this anthology with my short story  "Flight of Hope". Here is my story trailer:

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging on January 16, 2012 before I published my first book to Amazon, Goddess of the Moon: Mayan World of Vampires.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
I like to look back at my journey to see how far I've come. I also like to blog about encouraging things to help other people.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?
Fiction, Young Adult, Fantasy, and paranormal.

What is your favorite book(s)?
The Twilight Saga and the Sookie Stackhouse books. I think I can identify with Charlaine Harris's style of writing. It inspires me as a writer. (Scroll below for more about this author).

What book or TV show or movie have you not read or seen that seemingly everyone else has?

TV:  CSI Miami, The Bachelor

Books: Fifty Shades of Grey - I am sure many people reading this have their mouths open in shock.

My Book Review of World of Pirates
(can be found at Goodreads)

I am a contributor to this anthology. It was thrilling to be a part of it. The cover art work is beautiful. The various tales from new and established authors were very entertaining. I was awestruck at the detail that was used in some of the stories. It makes a great addition to the home library. It is clean reading which doesn't mean that it lacks in anyway. It makes a good bedtime read after a long, stressful day.

Grab yours maties or you'll be walkin' the plank!

Charlaine Harris

I like Charlaine Harris's style of writing. It is unique and down to earth yet is entertaining, holds mystery, and keeps you coming back for more.

Charlaine Harris a New York Times bestselling author who has been writing for thirty years. She was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and teenage angst, she began writing plays when she attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She switched to novels a few years later, and achieved publication in 1981 with Sweet and Deadly. Harris is married and the mother of three. She lives in a small town in Southern Arkansas and when she is not writing her own books, she reads omnivorously. Her house is full of rescue dogs.

Harris created The Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasy series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps. The first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001. Each book follows Sookie through her adventures involving vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. The series, which now numbers eleven titles, has been released worldwide.

Sookie Stackhouse has proven to be so popular that Alan Ball, creator of the HBO television series Six Feet Under, announced he would undertake the production of a new HBO series based upon the  books  He wrote and directed the pilot episode for that series, True Blood, which premiered in September of 2008 . It was an instant success and is now filming its fourth season.

Note - My husband and I sat down today August 23rd to watch the Sy-Fy channel. I finally watched the movie "The Vampire's Assistant" which was taken from the the novel written by author Darren Shan. It was very good - better than I thought it would be.

Author, Darren Shan

Bio in his own words: I was born in London in 1972, directly opposite Big Ben and the House of Parliament. I lived in London until the age of 6 and started school (no pre-school facility would have me!) I came from a largely working class Irish family though my mother was a primary school teacher...I loved the switch to Ireland: we moved into my great-grandfather's cottage out in the countryside, and I relished the freedom and dark, spooky nights...I was always interested in horror, both books and movies, and loved giving myself nightmares. Many of the books I write now are rooted in delightfull chilling childhood scare sessions, when I'd keep myself awake at night, imagining horrible scenarios in which vampires and other assorted creatures would surround my little cottage and lay siege! I live in Ireland, and have been fascinated with vampires since I was six years old. I write full-time, and I still love giving myself nightmares.

  1. It's funny, I really wanted the paper white Kindle b/c it seemed so similar to an actual book. Of course my husband got me the new HD one though. He just couldn't comprehend not getting the tablet-like one. I like it, it's convenient. But it will never replace a real book for me :) New GFC follower.

  2. I could never get my MP3s to play on my Kindle touch. I guess I had to convert them to a different format? I don't know. Too much work, lol.

    1. Lizzie, I noticed that the MP3 playing feature is under "experimental" on the Kindle. With that said, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When I would lessen the volume on it, sometimes it would just stop playing. So I mostly just use a cheapy MP3 player with headphones.

  4. I love my paperwhite Kindle because the pages look like a regular book. I had to convert to ebooks since I ran out of room to store my favorite print books.

  5. I am a new follower! :) I also read so many books on my Kindle and have so many that I probably have enough reading material for a few years on there! LOL But I do still love a physical book in my hands.

  6. I love all the functions of my Nook especially when reading for review as I love the dictionary and annotation/highlight/notes function :D I also love the e-ink tech and wouldn't want an LCD for my ebook even if it'll do all fancy stuff like web browsing. I love the fact that when I read my Nook it still looks like printed words on a page, there are times when I've gone to turn the page that's how much it looks like printed words LOL

  9. And I would add that it would be great if the hubby provided all snacks, drinks, fed the cats, and did dinner while you are either reading or writing on the bed. But I really do live in a fantasy world sometimes.
